Andrea Harrison
Andrea Harrison is a mixed media painter based in Avondale Estates, Georgia. Her work explores the balance between chaos and control, using vivid color, layered texture, and abstract form. Legally blind in her left eye, Andrea leans into tactile materials—gels, glazes, and found objects—to create pieces that invite touch and reward close inspection.
She studied art at the University of Georgia and returned to painting after a long career in corporate leadership and nonprofit advocacy. In addition to painting, she also dabbles in drawing and photography. Her experience informs a practice that values curiosity, structure, and emotional honesty.
She invites viewers to lean in, touch (with clean hands), then step back.

What inspired this piece?
Orange was inspired by a tree I once saw, heavy with immature fruit, its glossy dark green leaves catching the cheerful savannah sun. I became fascinated—did you know orange trees have thorns? The marks and scratches on a mature orange are often self-inflicted, earned just by growing.
This piece was created using only green—many different shades of it. No orange at all. The contrast comes through texture, glaze, and how light interacts with the surface. The fruit in the foreground is textured, glowing, and built up through layered medium, almost reaching out. In contrast, the fruit in the shadows is smooth, indistinct, and easily overlooked.
Orange is a meditation on growth, visibility, and resilience—the promise of sweetness to come, despite the unavoidable self-inflicted wounds.
