Tonia Mitchell is a gifted creative spirit. She handcrafts enchanting, unique dolls, story quilts, and other figurative art from various mediums including cloth and polymer clay. Tonia’s art creations come to life with a sense of style, attitude, and panache. This wanderlust artist is a native of Georgia who has had the unique experience of growing up in a military family. Tonia has traveled extensively, living in many places across the United States, Europe, Central America, and Southeast Asia. As a result of this exposure, she has developed a deep respect and appreciation for other cultures.
Intuitively, each of her creations bears a remarkable balance of color, pattern, and texture. Tonia marvels at people’s similarities as well as their differences and she masterfully weaves these senses into fascinating works of art. She states: “My art is a joyful journey in the exploration of color, texture, and imagination. I employ the use of exotic fabrics from around the world, hand-dyed and commercial yarns and fibers, beads, buttons, and embellishments that delight the eye”
“I sew, I sculpt and paint artworks designed to elevate and inspire. My work celebrates the wonder of color and cultural diversity in our world with a focus on the human face. I am intrigued with the idea that faces are the windows to our souls as we share hope, joy, bliss, contentment, and love.”
